Little Switzerland (NC-226A) then NC-80 or NC-181

Now that you’ve gotten to Red Hill via NC-226 by following one of our previous posts (see Red Hill), where to?  This post shows you an easy way to get to the famous curvy road of NC-226A found in Little Switzerland, NC.  After riding NC-226A, you will then have the option of riding south or north on US-221.  If you ride south, there will be gas on your right then you can ride NC-80 N back to US-19E.  If you ride north, you will pass Linville Caverns then there is an entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway just before Linville Falls.  Alternately, just before Linville Falls, you can take a right onto NC-183 and follow it to the stop sign.  Then take a right onto NC-181.  A lot of times we will go this way to ride 14 mi of NC-181 southward then turn around at the convenience store and ride NC-181 northward.  This post will describe how to get to NC-80 from the NC-226/US-221 intersection.  It will also describe the alternate ride on NC-181 southward and northward.  Either ride from Johnson City, TN is about 200 miles.  The map and detailted route below it below show the route from Red Hill, NC through Little Switzerland.Red_Hill_NC-226A_map
